Feast of St Columba Mass and blessing of St Columba mosaic

After a lovely school mass honouring St Columba, Fr John blessed beautiful mosaic of St Columba which has been lovingly made by art teacher Bec Long and the Gr 3-6 students. The mosaic takes pride of place in the school’s kitchen garden.

2019 Volunteers Afternoon Tea

Our parish Dine with Heart Soup Evening was a resounding success with 70 parishioners and school families and friends gathering to enjoy a bowl or two of warm, nourishing soup on a cold night. Good company, a warm atmosphere and plenty of chatter was enjoyed by all. It was wonderful that we were able to host such a great night with all the proceeds going to Sacred Heart Mission Meals Program. Together we raised $1, 676.50. We are grateful to everyone who came and donated to this most worthy cause.

‘Casting our Net into the Deep’

Our theme for 2010

Opening of School Mass

St Columba’s Opening School Year Mass was held on Saturday 6th February. It was a lovely ceremony and celebration of our parish school community. John, Maria and the school focused on the theme “cast your net into the deep”. The children prepared beautiful fish which were caught in ‘our net’ and John continued his ‘fishing’ at other masses at St Columba’s & Sacred Heart.

Concert in St Columba’s Church

Lorin Nicholson, a talented guitarist and performer who is legally blind, performed for the children of St Columba’s and other guests on Wednesday 3rd February. Lorin is an inspirational person who shared his stories and his talents with the children.

Parish Christmas Lunch Dec 2009

Our Christmas Lunch was a wonderful celebration of a great year at Elwood St Kilda West Parish. It was lovely to see so many enjoying catching up with old and new friends.

St Columba’s Garden January 2010

The vegie garden in the back yard of the parish house is doing well (no thanks to a pesky possum who likes corn!). The children from St Columba’s Primary School with help from some wonderful parents have been tending the garden and enjoying the spoils of their work. Can you spot the beautiful towering sunflower?

St Columba’s Primary School Garden Opening

St Columba’s Primary School recently celebrated the official opening of their wonderful new gardens – a secret garden for contemplative reflection and a new vegie garden behind the Parish House. Thank you very much to Betty and her team for their dedication and hard work.

  1. I attended St. Columba’s primary school in the early 1960’s and would like to know if there are any school photos existing from that time. If so, I would someone to scan them and send them to me if at all possible, as they have been lost over the years.

    • Dear Janice,
Sorry for the late reply. I have asked the school to find out if there are any photos from the early 1960’s. I will get back to you when we find out.
      Kind Regards,

  2. Hi, I have a similar request for photos from Sacred Heart Primary in Grey street. I recall a reunion a good 10-15yrs ago and wonder where the photos on display have been stored. I was at school in the mid 1960s. I remember Father Gory and Father Ernie when he first started. thanks

    • Hello Pauline,

From what I’ve been told archive information – hopefully including photos – was transferred to Galilee Primary School in South Melbourne. Give them a call & hopefully they can help – 9699 2928

      Kind Regards,

  3. I too attended Sacred Heart in the 1960’s and I would dearly love to find any school photos. I too attended Mass with Fatther Gory and he did my Conformation along with the a Bishop at the time. I will ring the Galilee Primary School hopefully they will have some answers.
